Labour Party Unveils Presidential Campaign Council
Labour Party (LP), yesterday, released its Presidential Campaign Organisation (LPPCO) list comprising 1,234 members even as it vowed to secure 15 million votes in next year’s presidential poll.
Unveiling the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, Chairman of the party, Julius Abure, represented by its National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Farouk, said the party carefully compiled the campaign list to give the best to Nigerians.
The campaign council is to be chaired by Alhaji Muhammad Zarewa with other one thousand two hundred and thirty-three members with Dr Yunusa Tanko as their Chief spokesperson
Also on the list are a seven-man management team with Okupe as its Director-General, Oseloka Obaze, who would serve as Dep. Director-General/Campaign Manager, Alhaji Yusuf Bello Maitama, Deputy Director-General North; Mr. Denzel Kentebe, Deputy Director-General South and Mrs. Eyitemi Taire, Deputy Campaign Manager 3.
The party also announced six zonal directors consisting of Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, South-East; Prince Favour Rueben, South-South; Balogun Akin Osuntokun, South-West; Joseph Ndirang, North Central; Alhassan Fawu, North-East and Audi A. Mohammed, North-West, as well as 36 state coordinators.
Okupe said it took 12 million votes for the incumbent president to win the presidential election in 2019 and that LP already had 15 million votes on ground.
“As we begin the 2023 round of electioneering campaigns, the registered voter population figure has tripled since 2019. More than 60 per cent of the nearly 100 million registered voters today are youths. This shows that there are more new voters in the voter register than old ones, and all the newly-registered voters are `OBIdients’. It is just for us to pray for life till the elections; we will show them. Nigeria is a youthful stream and they are ready to support all the way.’’
Okupe added that the Peter Obi and Dr Datti Baba-Ahmed LP ticket had been lovingly and organically accepted by the people of Nigeria, because of their robust and endearing records, personalities, vision, policies and promise.
He said the movement had taken on a life of its own and had become an unprecedented and formidable force in Nigeria’s national equation, beyond all imagination.
He said the ascendancy of LP’s presidential ticket to prime position in the hearts and minds of Nigerians had been fuelled by the patriotic zeal, creativity and shining example in discipline, character and decency of Obi and Datti.
Okupe stressed that the key message of the New Nigeria Movement also known as the `Take Back Nigeria Movement’ and more popularly as `The Obidient Movement’, signposts what people should give serious attention to.
However, the National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Oluwafemi has dismissed the campaign council list saying it was not approved by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) and the National Working Committee (NEC).
He tagged Okupe as a destructive dictator, working for the PDP to destroy the LP and trying to leverage on the goodwill so far garnered by the party, to make money for himself.
“What happened today goes to show the kind of irresponsible leaders we have. We are tired of leader who ordinarily ought to have retired to their medical line. Now I am shocked that Okupe decided to swear himself in today. It is against our constitution. It is alien to our us and our laws. I am highly disappointed that something as important is this was happening today and even Obi was twitting that he was attending ICAN conference. That is to show that the man whom you unveiled the list for did not endorse it. No member of the NWC attended the event. Okupe is just on a journey with some political forces and himself to sabotage the LP. It is obvious he is working for the PDP to destroy LP. He has made himself a destructive dictator. He wants to use this party to make money. Everything he did today is null and void.
“Okupe might be the reason Labour Party may end up in court. If he continues, there will be a litigation. He wants to come and make himself a dictator in a party he never built. He came from nowhere to flaunt himself.
