BREAKING: Ahmed Bola Tinubu Emerges APC Presidential Candidate
Former Governor of Lagos State, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, has emerged as the presidential candidate for the All Progressive Congress (APC) for 2023 presidential election.
Tinubu scored 1271 votes to emerge as the party flagbearer defeating his close contender, Former Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers, who polled 316 votes.
Governor Atiku Bagudu, the Chairman and Chief Retuning Officer of the PDP Special Convention, announcing the results, said total number of accredited delegates was 2,203 , the total number of votes cast was 2,115 , while 13 were invalid votes.
Bagudu said that “Tinubu having scored the highest votes in the election is hereby declared the winner”.
He also announced the votes scored by other aspirants as Vice President Yemi Osinbajo – 235 votes and Senate President, Ahmad Lawan – 152 votes.
Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi State – 38 votes, Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi State – 47 votes, Gov. Ben Ayade of Cross River State – 37 votes, Former Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba – 1 vote, Sen. Ahmed Sani Yerima – 4 votes and Former Minister for Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu – 1 vote.
While Former Governor of Imo State, Sen. Rochas Okorocha, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Ikeobasi Mokelu and Jack Tein Rich scored zero vote each.
The major game-changer was the stepping down of Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Gov. Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa, Former Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun, Former Minister of Niger Delta, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, Sen. Ajayi Boroffice and the only female aspirant, Uju Ken- Ohanenye, who all stepped down supporting Ahmed Tinubu. This eventually changed the dynamics handing the momentum to the former Lagos State Governor.
Tinubu will be squaring off against Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Peter Obi of Labour Party, and other candidates in the 2023 presidential election.
