Osinachi Nwachukwu: IGP Assures Family Of Justice
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba, on Wednesday, received the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Kedem Tallen, who paid a courtesy visit to him in his office at the Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The minister said she was at the IGP’s office to discuss the plight of women in Nigeria, especially in relation to gender and domestic-based violence.
Tallen pointed out the recent case of the famous gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, whose untimely death on April 8th, 2022 has caused a public outcry.
The minister who was accompanied by some family members of the late singer’s family was equally interested to know what efforts the police have put in place to ensure swift justice is dispensed.
While reacting, The Inspector-General of Police, has assured the family of late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu, of justice.
According to the IGP, investigations over the singer’s death are ongoing, noting that Osinachi’s husband, who has been accused of assaulting her leading to her death, is still in police custody.
He said the FCT Command of the Nigeria Police Force arrested the deceased’s husband at about 5 pm on Sunday 10th April 2022 at their residence in Lugbe, Abuja.
While lamenting the singer’s demise, he said the situation is more heartbreaking as information from sources close to the family and independent witnesses accused the husband of being responsible for her death.
The IGP further emphasized that considering the sensitive nature of the case, and the need to get justice, the command has approached the National Hospital Abuja, for post-mortem examinations on the the deceased to ascertain the cause of death and her husband be charged to court if it is established that he was responsible for her death.
