Be Extremely Careful While Applying The Concept Of Judicial Please – Justice Kanyip
The President of the National Industrial Court, His Lordship, Hon. Justice Benedict Kanyip, PhD, FNIALS has called on honorable judges of the lower court to be extremely careful while applying the concept of judicial precedent, that total perusal of the distinguishable factors is important in the overall interest of justice.
Justice Kanyip made this point while speaking on Judicial Precedent in Nigeria, at the Justice Niki Tobi 1st biennial symposium organized by ATS judicial consult held at the National Judicial Institute, Abuja.

Furthermore, the Hon. Justice of Supreme Court, Hon. Justice Amina Adamu Augie while speaking on the Nigerian Supreme court as a Policy Court: Niki Tobi’s input eulogized the late Niki Tobi sacrifice and unequal contributions to the advancement judicial jurisprudence in Africa.
In his remark, Chief Joe Kyari Gadzama, SAN who described himself as ‘Head Boy of Justice Niki Tobi’ hailed the late jurist for a teacher, judge, and mentor to many that history would continue to be kind to him for all his sacrifice towards the advancement of the judiciary.
The session was moderated by Professor Chioma Kanu Agomo (Emeritus), University of Lagos Department of Commercial and Industrial Law.
Niki Tobi was a professor of law turned jurist. He started his legal career as a state counsel, and then moved into academia as a professor of public and private law (with expertise in jurisprudence and Constitutional law). He was a dean of law, a deputy vice-chancellor, an acting vice-chancellor.
From academia, he moved to the bench, and rose from the high court to the court of appeal and then to the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He retired as the second most senior judge in Nigeria, next to the chief justice.
Justice Niki Tobi left to glory on June 16, 2016, and was buried on December 3rd, 2016.
