Justice Baba- Yusuf Calls on Legal Practitioners To Protect Sanctity of Rule of Law
The Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory, Justice Hussein Baba- Yusuf, wants judicial officers and legal practitioners to ensure that they always work toward protect the sanctity of the rule of law.
Justice Baba- Yusuf gave the advice during an event on Monday in Abuja to mark the commencement of 2022/2023 legal year of High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
The beginning of the 2022/2023 legal year of high court of the federal capital territory is significant to both the Judiciary and the society because it beams searchlight on the administration of justice , the rule of law, and the challenges lawyers and judges face.
A Thanksgiving church service was held for the lawyers led by Justice Sylvester Orji.
During the valedictory session, the chief judge gave account of the achievements made by the court but reminded the Bar and Bench that as the 2023 general elections draw closer, Nigerians expect a lot from the judiciary.
The body of senior advocate, FCT chapter, and the Nigeria Bar association, NBA, indicated readiness to support quick dispensation of justice.
In the 2021/2022 legal year, the FCT High Court and Magistrate courts recorded a total of 8,831 cases brought forward from the previous legal year (2020/2021) while 7,049 new cases were assigned in the course of the legal year in the High Court with 4,564 cases already dispensed by the High Court.
