President Buhari Swears in New CJN
President Muhammadu Buhari has sworn in Justice Ariwoola Olukayode as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
Justice Olukayode took the judicial oath of office on Wednesday at a brief ceremony in Abuja.
The event took place shortly before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, and was witnessed by other Justices of the Supreme Court, Governors of Oyo and Ondo States, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Ministers, and other members of cabinet.
Justice Olukayode took over as CJN in acting capacity on June 27, this year, following the resignation of Justice Tanko Muhammad on health grounds.
An indigene of Oyo State, Justice Olukayode was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court in 2011 by former President, Goodluck Jonathan.
In his first interaction with the media after being sworn in, the new CJN appealed to politicians to allow the judiciary function properly.
